Federal Arrest
Larry Levine, founder of White Collar Prison Consultants, is a former private investigator who operated a firm in Los Angeles, California. In 1998, his life took an unexpected turn when he was arrested by an FBI-Secret Service led Organized Crime Task Force.
Levine was charged with racketeering, securities fraud, obstruction of justice, and narcotics trafficking. He eventually received two ten-year concurrent sentences in federal prison.
Enters Federal Custody
During his time in custody, Levine served at 11 federal correctional institutions across various security levels in five different states. He personally experienced the confusion and fear that first-time offenders face when entering federal custody.
Prior to sentencing, Levine was held in a federal detention center at MDC Los Angeles. He assisted fellow inmates with their defense by reviewing legal documents, researching case law, and explaining criminal defense strategies and possible sentencing departures.
Taking on the BOP
After being sentenced as a federal inmate, he assisted inmates with their legal trouble. He helped file habeas corpus petitions, obtain federal sentence reductions, secure medical care, transfers, job changes, additional halfway house time, furloughs, visitation, and dealing with BOP staff and internal policy issues.
One of Levine’s most notable accomplishments during his incarceration was filing a federal Habeas Corpus Lawsuit while being held at a federal prison in Texas. His legal action led to over 100 misclassified inmates being transferred to lower security facilities.
This bold move caught the attention of both inmates and the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) staff, showcasing Levine’s determination to hold the BOP accountable for their actions.
Challenges BOP Policy
Inmates like Levine, who challenge the BOP’s policies and practices, are often disliked by the staff. This is because they expose the BOP’s shortcomings and force them to adhere to their own rules and regulations.
By advocating for inmates’ rights and pushing for fair treatment, Levine became a thorn in the side of the BOP. Nevertheless, he also also became a valuable resource for those seeking guidance and assistance.
Becoming a Prison Consultant
After his release and recognizing the lack of support and guidance for inmates, Levine founded the prison consulting industry. He decided to use his jailhouse legal knowledge and experience to help others navigate the complexities of the federal prison system.
Levine’s unique background and experience led to the creation of our sister firm Wall Street Prison Consultants Where he now serves as the director.
Pre Trial Support
Today, Levine helps defendants navigate the federal criminal judicial process. He does so by explaining the ramifications of going to trial versus taking a plea agreement. Along with how the US Sentencing Guidelines can reward defendants who cooperate and plead out.
Helping With Early Release
He also provides coaching to defendants entering the BOP. Assisting them in obtaining early releases. With programs like through RDAP Residential Drug Abuse Program, the Compassionate Release program, the FSA First Step Act, the 2nd Chance Act and other BOP programs. He also helps clients with designation to a desirable facility.
His ultimate goal is to train defendants in prison survival and help them get back to their loved ones as safely and quickly as possible. Larry Levine’s expertise and personal experience make him a valuable resource for those facing the challenges of federal custody.
His dedication to helping others navigate the complex world of the BOP and holding the system accountable has earned him the reputation he has, as a trusted and knowledgeable prison consultant.
